Task 6A

The success of the product
The product was very successful but it could have been even better than what we produced. The client gave us appropriate feedback, which was very helpful in terms of enhancing the ident and making it more suitable for purpose. The client praised the use of slow motion, which we incorporated into the idents to make it look more convincing. The only downside to the feedback was that we should use a better transition to make the channels name look smoother.

The process of responding to the brief and working with the ident

In my opinion I think we worked well to the best of our standards and we were able to produce good quality idents, despite the fact that there were some challenges and etc but we composed ourselves and were able to pull it off. The idets were supposed to be seasonal but because we didn’t manage our time properly, we couldn’t keep to that objective and we had to alter the idents a little bit. However we were able to stick to the 20 seconds that we negotiated. We were also able to add sound effects and symbols, which really went with the ident as it made it more realistic and appealing to the audience.

The effectiveness of your group Organization

Positive: As a group we worked sufficiently, because we had 2 people working either on a set or the animation this made things much faster rather than everyone working on one ident and then moving on to another as a group that would have been time consuming. About 90% of the time the whole group was present. We also had good communication skills most of the time, which allowed us to go through most challenges we faced.

Negatives: one of the negatives was that, sometimes a member or two were not present at certain times. This includes me as well I think I may have missed 2 shoots. There were also times when people in the group didn’t agree to certain things, which caused arguments within the group members, which then ate into time, because on certain days we only got little done or nothing done at all. But that wasn’t always the case it was only a few times.

Task 6Biii

I was Camera OP for my group, what i had to do was book out the equipment we needed to shoot from Mr french, for example tripod , lights , camera and etc. My job was to take pictures because our ident we were doing stop motion. i positioned the camera in a specific angle so that it would only capture the doll and the backdrop and nothing else. what we did was that i would take the pictures and someone in my team would be moving the dolls so it was quicker and easier, but that wasn't the case. Sometimes i would accidentally move the camera, which would affect the previous shots hence why we had to start all over again at times and i needed to have steady hands in order to pull off all 4 idents because my group was relying on me. We had about 80% commutation skills during production and outside of production, however there were times when there was no commutation within the group and things got a little be complicated and prolonged. punctuality wise i was very good in terms of being there for the shoot and turning u on time. I also contributed in the editing aswell as giving ideas when it came to placing the dolls and  how we should shoot and portray them on set.

I wouldn't say we did not work as a team or that we did a bad job, but i would say for future reference things would we change are things like commutation outside college, this could be making a whatsapp group chat or a snapchat group chat and sharing and passing on information so it makes things easier and quicker rather than always having to wait to get into college to find out information. Also in spare time this could be on a weekend or maybe during college breaks we could be working on the idents or whatever it is we need to make. I believe we could have done much better than we did, because we were on the same level as everyone else rather than being one step ahead and making it easier on ourselves.

TASK 6BI

Task 6B i

Through these idents we tried to portray them as being lively and real, by incorporating the theme into the idents. The theme was ‘’ they may have life’’.  We can see in this ident that we tried to bring the dolls to live, by making them do things that the students do at the college. The fact that we have dolls of different skin colours shows the audience that this College is very diverse in terms of ethnicity and background. In my opinion we did a good job in terms of having a few dolls, but we could have used with a lot more darker skin dolls just to get the point of diversity across a little bit more.  For the fashion show we wanted to show the different kinds of people that attend the college with their different styles and personality, i feel like we could have incorporated more movements just to show off the bodies of the dolls from all angles.  With the Oscars ident we wanted to show that everyone was a winner, but unfortunately we didn't have enough time to add other dolls to make it look convincing, we could have improved on this by spending our time more wisely and moving quicker with these idents but then again we did stop motion and we are using dolls to takes up a lot more time than we anticipated. In the talent show ident we wanted the audience to know that the college is gifted with students with different talents, no matter what talent they have they can always make good use of it at the college. However we only showed signing and dancing i feel like we could have incorporated maybe 2 more dolls with talents. In general i am happy with the idents they could have been a little bit better if we prioritized our time more.

Diary Entry

11th April

Quality management
As a group we had a discussion with the client concerning our ident. We had a few minutes to come up with questions on what we would want to ask the client, and the question had to be detailed in-order to get a detailed response which would enable us to come out with the best ident. Questions like what he would what the brand identity to be, the theme , and weather we should keep the colour of the college the same of if we were allowed to change or manipulate it in our own way. We also had to consider if the idents were going to be formal or informal and how they would appeal to the target audience. One of the things we had to negotiate was the time of the ident, because we were doing stop motion footage and on the brief we had a time frame of 30 seconds. We negotiated the time down to 20 seconds because when we did it for practice we discovered that its time consuming so we definitely needed to bring the time frame down.

TeamWorking
There were slight issues with the idea we generated as a group as it did not really meet the brief. We were supposed to have an idea for 4 idents but they were coming along more like adverts than idents. what we had in mind was having students  in various subject classrooms and record them doing their subject, Mr Barton gave his opinion and told us that we should show the content of the college rather than just showing the subjects. So then The Leader of the group Mic came up with the idea of using dolls and have them doing various enrichments, for example football , fashion show , Talent show and etc. This idea seemed to work better than the previous one we had, because we are actually showing the content that is within the college rather than just showing the audience what they already know the college does eg, Maths , English etc. We also wanted to incorporate a fighting scene with the dolls, but according to Mr Barton it wasn't the right idea and it wasn't a strong idea either and it would have portrayed the wrong idea to the audience that would be watching the ident.

Deadline
Shortly before pitching to the Client David Pearson we had a few minutes to structure what we was going to say, and we chose Mic to be the main speaker as he came up with the General idea for the idents. Mic as Director spoke about the Overall layout of the idents the Tone Brand identity and the Theme of the idents which were very key in order to build an image into the Clients head and also to get our point across. I(Tim) emphasized on the idea of the idents just to make sure its implanted into the Clients head. Dej spoke about the designs, but because the actual drawing were in her book and not in the package that was handed to the client it made things a little bit awkward because the client couldn't get to see what it would have looked like. we also were able to meet the deadline because we worked well together was a group to communicate and get across things and information to one an other. The reason we were able to meet the deadline was because we worked together before and this allowed us to meet the deadline. Also the one thing we forgot to change was the story board from the old one to the new one.

Task 2c

  • Opportunities for self development:
  • New Skills:
  • Multi- skills:
  • Contributions to product brief:

Opportunities

As my role for being a camera operator it gives me the chance to beautify my camera skills and also gain a lot more skills as this is a more detailed piece of work that I’ll be doing compared to the other ones I’ve done.
 New Skills

A skill that I would need mostly would be patience’s because these are stop motion idents there might be some times where we might have to stop and start, and also with stop motion it’s a series of shots so if for example one shot looks a bit odd, I would have to start all over again and take my time to capture each shot properly which takes a patience person to complete it. Another new skill I will be taking on is combing creativity with technical skills, for example this could be taking shots of the dolls walking down the run way but in a tilted angle to show that they are distorted or confused.

Multi- Skills
This would be communicating effectively with the Director and Assistant Director to make sure that everything is in place and nothing is missing in-order for us to complete the shoot to the best of our abilities.

Contributions to product brief
My contribution would be getting all the equipment we need and possibly sourcing any talents if need and getting their consent. As well as being the camera man and making every shot as accurate as possible
